Our Winter Survival Kit

It’s hard to believe it’s already February, but there’s no end in sight to the freezing temperatures nor winter germs, which have motivated me to be as ready as possible to combat whichever illness may come our way – and that’s when our winter survival kit comes handy.

So, what makes the cut?

  • Elderberry Syrup – AKA “Grape vitamin” in our house is a regular go-to to help boost immunity or knock out sickness faster. During peak cold/flu periods (like now) or before trips, we take this daily, otherwise we only take at the start of any symptoms. I’ve started making our own, following Wellness Mama’s simple recipe (and freeze in small mason jars), or my favorite store bought brand is Nature’s Way*.
  • Oscillococcinum – Meet the holy grail of homeopathetic meds to help reduce the duration and severity of flu symptoms. True or False? I keep Oscillo on my monthly Amazon subscribe and save delivery? TRUE! And we take these preventatively on the regular and when traveling? TRUE! My son begs for “baby pellets?” TRUE!
  • Umcka – These drops are great to start taking immediately when you feel yourself getting sick to minimize anything and everything. Bonus points that they’re safe for kids, as they’re alcohol free.
  • Cold Calm – Another remedy in our arsenal when a cold seems to start lurking to nip it in the bud ASAP (they also make kids and baby versions too, one of which may or may not be in our monthly Amazon S&S).
  • Vitamin D – We’re all lacking Vitamin D and need that extra immunity boosts. Thanks to the amazing recommendation from Mother Earth Mama, my kids couldn’t be happier to take these gummies. Bonus, they are sugar free!
  • Chestal Honey – While honey is a great go-to for coughs, sometimes you need something more and Chestal is just that. Love that it’s also dye-free, non-drowsy and safe for kids over two, so we can all use the same bottle.
  • Xlear Nasal Spray – Keeping your nasal passages clean is a great preventative measure to keep illnesses away – we love these xyitol sprays, for kids and adults, and use them daily.
  • Not pictured – honey (regular and manuka), targeted Boiron remedies (i.e. croupy coughs, fevers, etc), Poofy Organics anti stick, my diffuser, humidifier, assortment of teas and alcohol 😉

What are some things in your winter survival kit? Please share, as I love learning more together!

Disclaimer: over the years, our awesome pediatrician’s office has taught me a lot about homeopathic alternatives that have worked so well for us, but I’m no doctor and recommend you do your own research/ask yours 🙂
