Better Buying with B Corps

After completing our Fast Fashion Free February Challenge, I’ve realized how the above statement – buy less, choose well, make it last – has become my adopted mantra when it comes to buying clothes.

Is a perfect practice? NO.

Is it always easy? NO.

Is the cheapest? NO.

But over time, it’s become more evident that quality, more environmentally-friendly fabrics and timeless designs reign supreme and are worth the investment over quantity and the latest trends.

One tip to help you shop better? Look for brands that are B Corporations. Never heard of this? Certified B Corporations meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability and focus on the 3 P’s – people, planet and profit. Think of these companies as another way to vote with your dollar everyday by demonstrating what you buy and who you do business with matters most to you.

B Corps span many industries and some of my favorite fashion and accessory brands include: Patagonia, Veja, Eileen Fisher, Athleta, Allbirds, Toms, Bixbee and Apolis.

Outside of fashion, a few of my other (and probably not too surprising) certified B corp brands I like to shop are Beautycounter, Klean Kanteen (Amazon aff link if you’d like to shop their line), Happy Family, Plum Organics, New Chapter and King Arthur Flour Company.

Now there are certainly a plethora of wonderful fashion brands (and beyond) that aren’t certified B Corps (yet?!), but as more certified B Corp companies are popping up all the time, I encourage you to check out their directory before you shop next!
