Vacation Eating – YOLO vs. Mindful Indulgence

Night One of Mandatory Ice Cream Indulgence

We just spent a week in Cape Cod, MA, and like every year, it did not disappoint and was a true highlight of our summer. We enjoyed all the food, dessert, drinks, you name, and it was amazing.

When it comes to eating during vacations, do you live by the YOLO motto and indulge to yours hearts content?

Or, do you practice mindful indulgence and try to strike a balance between “home” and “vacation” eating practices?

For our family, we do a combination of the two. Either bringing or picking up a lot of our go-to foods (including fruits, veggies and healthier breakfasts/snacks), so we can balance out the nightly ice cream trips and seemingly endless supply of Cape Cod potato chips and fried foods. Plus, we stay on top of drinking ample water and trying to keep a semi-normal sleep schedule.

Are there days we slip up and eat non-stop crap? Yes!

Do we love it? Yes!

But by the end of our trip, are we ready to detox and stay away from french fries, chips and ice cream for a while? Yes (well, the parents at least)!

It’s all about the balance and enjoying the moment without pushing our limits to regret it the next day.

As we reset and return to all things normal this week- while we look at our vacation pictures nonstop – bring on the green juice, extra veggies and fruit, non-fried foods and some special treats, of course. It’s all about balance, right?!
