Do you wonder if your passion for something ever becomes too much?
This past weekend, my daughter attended a friend’s birthday party where they decorated these cute – but plastic – water bottle snack cups. When I picked her up, my friend (and the birthday girl’s mom) remarked how my daughter told her that “my mom won’t let me drink out of this because it’s plastic.”
Upon hearing this, I laughed, then cringed because it was the truth. We avoid as much plastic as we can and her comment reminded me of a question my daughter I had asked me a few weeks prior, “why do you hate plastic so much and why do you care so much about the environment?”
My answer reinforced why I do what I do – “because I want you and your kids and your grandchildren and their grandchildren to enjoy and experience safer and cleaner oceans and a better overall planet.”
Of course this isn’t easy, especially for kids, and our habits are far from perfect but reminding my daughter about my why fuels my passion for non-toxic living. My family has always been so incredibly supportive of my safer changes over the years and I’m grateful for their support and acceptance along the way, as well as from friends.
Has my daughter used the water bottle since the party? Yes.
Will it be her new go-to? Nope (much to her dismay) but I know she understands why and I’m especially proud of her for this.
If you’re ever feeling guilty or discouraged, focus on ways to make your passion your purpose.
For me, I find myself toeing the line to find a balance and constantly remind myself to focus more on the progress vs. striving for (unrealistic) perfection.
I’m so grateful for everyone who is part of my Living Cleaner, Easier and Safer Community and supports my Beautycounter business, as you are fueling my passion and I love learning and doing better together <3.
