If self care is a bigger focus for you this year or perhaps part of a resolution you’ve made, consider adding dry brushing to your daily or weekly routine. I’ll be honest that I resolved to start dry brushing last year after I bought this brush, but like many resolutions, that never happened.
So, I’m vowing to make it a regular practice this year – after all, your skin is your largest organ, so let’s give it some TLC.
Why?
First, dry brushing is an awesome exfoliator – who doesn’t love smoother skin – and great boost for your skin’s appearance. It also helps increase your circulation, which can aid your overall health and energy levels (to name a few), as well as detoxify your body with lymph drainage – and who doesn’t appreciate another way to strengthen your immune system during these winter months?
So, how should you dry brush and when?
You can either dry brush before you bathe or afterwards, but be sure to always use light pressure. You don’t want to brush too hard and irritate your skin, rather your goal is to always get your blood and lymphatic fluid moving!
Ideally incorporate dry brushing into your morning routine to increase energy levels and start at your feet, brushing upwards gently and always towards your heart. Help digestion by brushing in a counterclockwise direction over your belly and use small, yet firm strokes to aid in flushing out toxins.
Always be sure to hydrate your skin after dry brushing and bathing with some safer body lotion or butter and if you prefer to dry brush after your shower/bath (and after you towel off), don’t forget to use body oil!
This entire process shouldn’t take more than five minutes and will hopefully kick start your morning routine!
