How Often Do You Recycle Your Own Looks?

After reading this article about a teacher who wore the same dress straight for 100 days of school and then seeing Jane Fonda and Elizabeth Banks looking so glamorous at Sunday’s Oscars donning previously worn red carpet gowns, it got me thinking.

How often do you re-wear your clothes?

For as long as I can remember, the European way of dressing has been to invest in quality not quantity, even if that means re-wearing multiple pieces of clothing each week.

So, why is it that all too often in our culture, we are bombarded with the need for excess and the idea that we need to expand our wardrobe, buying more and not necessarily recycling our own looks?

What gives?!

As we strive for more sustainability in fashion today, I love how these women’s actions are helping to bring necessary attention to climate change and consumption, while reiterating that if you have a look you love, feel great in and that fits, why not wear it again (and again and again)?

I think we can all agree that we are damn good at recycling our household items, so let’s collectively try to recycle our wardrobes better. That’s what accessories are for, right?!!

I’m not saying we all have to stop shopping and wear the same dress everyday (although that is pretty awesome), but let’s try to better shop our own closets first – before going out and buying something new – and help our planet!
