From synthetic clothing to microfiber cloths, microplastics may be lurking in many areas of our homes but aren’t always all that bad – they could be helping you stay comfortable working out or enjoying the pool/beach via recycled polyester or even minimizing the time spent cleaning and using paper towels. However, it still doesn’t change the fact that these items aren’t made of natural fibers.
The laundry never stops, so what can we do to help minimize these pesky microplastics from entering our waterways when we do our wash?
Meet the guppyfriend bag aka your new BFF to help more responsibly wash your clothes, towels, etc.
So, what makes this bag effective in the fight against microplastic pollution?
First, it helps filter any fibers that may break down when washing, making it easy to collect and properly dispose of them (note that I haven’t done this, but will do my research once my mason jar is full). It also reduces the fiber shedding, as it protects your clothes and lastly, serves as a great reminder as we’re separating and doing laundry to be more cognizant of bettering our buying and washing habits!
This awesome bag is available on many sites (including a favorite B Corp Patagonia) and I bought mine at the Package Free Shop in Brooklyn.
While it’s certainly an investment at $35, it’s amazing to think how committing to one change such as this can help one of our biggest environmental problems and better protect our oceans, marine life and us, too, since we could be eating these microplastics!?
