Plastic Free July Challenge

Time keeps on zooming by and as we welcome in July tomorrow, who’s up for a plastic free challenge?

Plastic Free July is a month long challenge to help clean up our oceans, streets and communities worldwide by reducing and/or eliminating single-use plastic consumption. Visit Plastic Free July to take the pledge and let’s start taking action together!

I’ve been taking this pledge the past few years and while some days may be better than others and some situations can be harder to say no to or find a plastic free alternative, the most important thing is consistency. Consistently putting our best foot forward to help be part of the solution to plastic pollution.

So, what are some simple ways to reduce our reliance on plastic, especially during a pandemic?

  • Stay as prepared as possible when you’re out picking up food, especially take out. Say no to plastic utensils and straws and instead, ensure you’ve packed your own reusable straws and utensils to use as you’re out and about.
  • It’s summer, so keeping hydrated is essential! Don’t leave the house without that reusable water bottle – there are so many stainless steel and glass options in all sizes and price points nowadays, so find one that works for you and drink up. That way, you won’t feel tempted to buy plastic bottled water.
  • As stores continue to open, say no to that plastic bag and reach for that reusable tote. Baggu bags are awesome, as they fold up to next to nothing, hold up to 50 lbs, are durable and beyond stylish!
  • When food shopping, try to buy produce not in plastic containers/bags or forgo using plastic bags to hold your loose produce. Instead, give that produce a nice wash when you’re home, as chances are you may be doing that already!

Hopefully together we can make a difference, minimizing our plastic usage/waste and realizing how little steps can help combat plastic pollution throughout July and beyond!
