Whether you’ve just heard about maskne or experienced it yourself, wearing a mask for long periods of time, combined with warmer temps and/or sweat, can lead to clogged pores, breakouts and acne.
Thankfully there are simple ways to help treat maskne and here are some quick tips to keep your skin clear while staying safe:
- Be sure that you are using a clean mask everyday – no excuses, as sweat, makeup, oil, dirt and/or bacteria could be lurking inside your mask and contribute to breakouts!
- Just like you’re washing your mask, give your face some extra TLC by cleansing in the AM and PM and there are so many options depending on your skin’s needs:
- For normal – dry/sensitive skin, our Counterstart cococream cleanser is a great go-to to leave skin feeling nourished and soothed, plus squeaky clean.
- If you’re looking for some extra exfoliation or have oilier skin, our Countercontrol clear pore cleanser is great for a deep clean without dryness. I love using this alone or when I feel like I need to double cleanse, I reach for that exfolitator after my Countertime lipid defense cleansing oil (woohoo for our plant-derived retinol alternative, Retinatural Complex).
- Another awesome option for a deeper clean is our Counter+ charcoal cleansing bar, which safely detoxifies and absorbs impurities without drying out your skin.
- Target breakouts with our Countercontrol SOS spot treatment, which works for all skin types and quickly helps clear skin and reduce blemishes.
- Help balance and soothe skin with a weekly at-home “spa” treatment (or more depending on your skin’s needs) – our Counter+ charcoal facial mask is amazing for 10 relaxing minutes of self-care that will gently help purify, detoxify and clarify your complexion (plus it works great as a spot treatment, too!), while minimizing pores!
- Keep your glow, without the dull, thanks to our Counter+ overnight resurfacing peel, which safely improves skin texture and boosts clarity without irritation or over-drying. I love incorporating this into my nightly routine a few times a week to help minimize pores and for more radiant skin.
Here’s to safely beating mask-related breakouts and healthier, happier skin!
