Breast Thermography

Are you familiar with thermography?

Thermography, or Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging (DITI), is a non-invasive imaging procedure for monitoring physical conditions by showing thermal changes present in the body. Images can be taken of the breast, whole body, or area(s) of interest. (source: Vista Natural Wellness Center)

I personally wasn’t aware of this technology until a couple of years ago after visiting Vista Natural Wellness Center with a non-toxic living group and became instantly intrigued. After learning it was painless, did not utilize any radiation and involves no contact with the body, I was so impressed to know how important it can be as part of an early detection process, particularly for breast disease.

Fast forward to this year and with a big birthday coming up, I decided it was time to make my first breast thermography appointment at Vista to help set the stage for my breast health and history with safe annual screenings for early detection.

The process was completely non-invasive, safe and left me feeling very informed about my health. The first appointment lasted about thirty minutes and it is recommended that I go again in three months and then yearly to see of any baseline changes. Should anything come up, I would choose to get an ultrasound or mammography. The only downside is that this process is not covered by (most) insurance, so I choose to see it as an investment in my health.

While I’m no doctor and recommend you speak with yours first, I decided that this was best first step for me in lieu of a mammogram right now, given no history of breast cancer in my family. I encourage everyone to figure out what is best for you in your health journey and know that I am not recommending this as a replacement to a mammography, rather another safe option for accurate annual screening.

Also given the world today, our health is more important than ever, so don’t put off any of your yearly appointments – dentist, physicals, obgyn annuals, mammograms, thermography, you name it.

After all, health is wealth.
