The Benefits of Double Cleansing

Do you ever double cleanse?

While I’m not suggesting extending your routine every day (or if that’s more necessary “me” time, go for it!), some nights may call for double cleansing.

You may be wondering why?

First off, it ensures a better clean and that you are washing everything from your day away – make-up, dirt, grime, oil, you name it. Plus, making sure you completely remove your make-up and cleanse thoroughly will help decrease your chances of breakouts.

So, what does this process entail?

Step one is washing with an oil-based cleanser – my favorites are our Countertime Cleansing Oil or Lotus Glow Cleansing Balm – to gently remove make-up and your day, as you hydrate your skin.

Next, reach for your go-to cleanser or exfoliator, which for me would be our Countermatch Foaming Cleanser and Countercontrol Clear Pore Cleanser, to ensure you properly clean and treat your skin. That way, you now have a fresh face and clean slate before finishing your skincare routine.

Now that you’ve double cleansed, apply your serums, peels and night and eye creams, which will absorb and work better! Plus, this will leave your skin glowing!

Depending on your skin type, you may find yourself double cleansing once a week, a few days a week or really whenever you think you need it most. Those with oily or acne-prone skin may reap the benefits of double cleansing most often. If you have drier skin, that second step may not be needed that often (or you can just use water), as you’ll want to be sure you’re using products that won’t/don’t dry out your skin. I know I appreciate the double cleanse the most during summer’s heat and humidity.
