Happy November! As we get closer to the holidays, you may want to switch up your decorations and toss your pumpkins but don’t!!
Instead, keep them out of landfills – food waste makes up too much of our trash – so put your unpainted pumpkins to work to help your lawn/garden!
If your town collects pumpkins along with leaves and other yard waste, you can add them to the curb.
If not, compost them yourself with a few easy steps- promise this isn’t hard nor do you need your own compost!
- First, make sure you remove the seeds. Dry, then roast them and enjoy that extra Zinc and nutrients!
- Next, have fun and smash – or cut – the pumpkin up, as this will help it compost faster!
- You can add these small pieces to your compost or place them in a shady spot in your yard and cover with leaves to help further the process.
- If your local squirrels behaved this year, you can always leave smaller pieces around your yard for them, deer, rabbits and other wildlife to enjoy, too!
Happy composting!
