Throughout the holiday season, it’s easier than you think to wrap sustainably, smarter and lower waste, too.
Here are a few easy tips and reminders to use now and as you gift throughout the year:
- Save the gift bags you receive and re-use them! Gift bags are always my saving graces, ha, but note that they usually are not recyclable, so hold onto and keep using them!
- Be sure to check your local recycling rules when it comes to your wrapping paper; typically anything shiny, glittery or metallic isn’t recyclable and the same goes for similar gift tags. This is another reason why brown kraft paper is great and can be really fun to personalize – draw on it, add decorations or keep it sleek and simple!
- Get creative with your wrapping and think outside the box – scarves, reusable fabric or even part of the gift themselves (I’m looking at you, dish towels)!
- Using tissue paper? Remember most are compostable, not recyclable.
- Save the ribbon you receive and re-use them as often as you can, as ribbon cannot be recycled.
Happy wrapping and happy gifting!
