How Many Personal Care Products Do You Use Daily?

Have you stopped to think about how many personal care products you use every day?

Personal care products are everything from your shampoo, body lotion, shaving cream, moisturizer, deodorant, makeup… even being at home or working from home (more), we all use personal care products each day, so let’s count them up!

The average American women uses 12 personal care products each day – whoa, right?! For me, I use around 15-20 per day and that number varies if I shower or not, ha! Regardless of your number, it all adds up and depending on the ingredients in these products, they may be contributing to your toxic load.

So, what can you do to lower your toxic exposure?

Start by finishing what you have and replacing them with cleaner and safer products!

To get started, you’ll want to do your homework and look beyond any greenwashing brands out there – unfortunately the beauty industry is (basically) unregulated, so you’ll need to do the work to find transparent companies that share ingredient lists and don’t hide behind loopholes, i.e. using ingredients like fragrance, natural flavors, etc.

Your health matters, as many ingredients commonly used in personal care products could be endocrine disruptors and even increase your risk for many diseases. So, take the time to educate yourself and utilize resources like the EWG Skin Deep database.

Next, vote with your dollar by seeking out companies that put your safety first by providing product transparency, ingredient screening and also ban harmful or questionable chemicals.
