BYO…..Containers to Restaurants for Leftovers

My leftover Aloo Gobi happily hanging out in my fridge

Do you ever bring your own reusable containers to restaurants for leftovers?

About fifteen years ago, I started to bring my own whenever I was eating out, so I could easily pack up leftovers and minimize my plastic consumption.

I bet you can imagine my husband’s reaction back then – yup, it was priceless. But soon after, he applauded my efforts and realized the benefits, too, so he’s now my biggest cheerleader to help us remember to BYO our containers.

Just this weekend, I was reminded of those early memories when we were out to dinner with friends – showing off your containers may seem comical at first, but then everyone embraces it and also realizes the ease and benefits!

Bringing glass containers makes reheating extra easy (not to mention they’re better for you!), as you can simply take your leftovers from the fridge directly to the microwave and enjoy – plates are optional 🙂

This simple action of BYO containers is such a great reminder that small steps can have big impacts – imagine the ripple effect if we all did this and how much it could help eliminate extra plastic consumption and waste?!

Want to take this one step further? Try asking restaurants to use your dishes for takeout orders!

Over the years, I’ve had luck asking some of my favorite restaurants to use my own glass dishes for my takeout. But true be told, I haven’t brought this back yet due to the pandemic, but aim to soon!

I hope this encourages you to start to BYO containers when you’re eating out and you enjoy making your leftovers more sustainable!
