While we are on the topic of spring cleaning, let’s talk about other items to prioritize cleaning, like your makeup brushes.
It’s definitely something you’d want to do more often than just in the spring. Ideally, you should be cleaning them every week or two – or at least monthly – depending on how often you use your bushes.
Why?
First, if your brushes aren’t cleaned regularly, bacteria will build-up and that could lead to breakouts, which no one wants.
Also, the cleaner your brushes, the better they will work to apply product and extend the life of those bristles.
So, what should you use to clean them?
Definitely opt for a gentle cleanser. My two go-tos are Dr. Bronner’s unscented soap or our charcoal bar.
Now, set aside a few minutes to clean them and this will quickly and simply become part of your routine.
Start by wetting the brushes. Then, suds them up with a small amount of cleanser and massage them in the palm of your hand. Next, rinse the brushes until they run clear, squeeze out any extra water and reshape them.
Finally, place them hanging on the edge of a counter or, depending on the shape of the brush, on a washcloth to dry (if the latter, make sure that they aren’t laying down flat to avoid any possibly mildew). Let them dry overnight and you’re set until the next week (or so)!
