Happy Plastic Free July!
In honor of this incredible initiative this month, let’s all visit www.plasticfreejuly.org and sign up to take the challenge – up to you if you want to do for one day, week or all of July (and beyond)!
While I’m not suggesting you go cold turkey because, let’s face it, that’s not realistic or doable. Instead, let’s challenge ourselves to say no to plastic and use less this month. Small habits add up and every step towards living a more zero waste life, the better. Plus, most actions take minimal time and effort, simply some advance planning!
Need some ideas?
- Summer heat = staying on top of your hydration, so plan ahead when leaving the house and bring your reusable water bottle. Resist the use to buy a plastic, single-use and wait to refill until you’re home.
- Are plastic bags outlawed in stores by you too? You’re already used to BYO-ing bags, so take it one step further by ditching plastic produce bags – skip them entirely (yes, you already wash that produce!) or invest in reusable options.
- Running low on some personal care products? Chose refillable options or try products that use less plastic and opt for bar soaps, shampoos and beyond.
- Love going out for ice cream, but hate all the plastic spoons? Either get your scoop(s) in a cone 😉 or BYO spoon/straw (for milkshakes).
- Get better and more comfortable at saying NO – whether it’s a plastic water bottle at a party, a straw for your iced coffee/tea (BYO straw or just skip one!) or buying individually wrapped snacks (buy the bigger bag/in bulk and bag them in reusable bags like a Stasher bag at home).
Remember it’s progress not perfection, so start small with some changes you can commit to this month. Here to help if you need motivation or more ideas!
