Beautycounter has been committed to formulating clean beauty products that protect both people and the planet since 2011 and we believe every day should be Earth Day.
Our mission has always been to get safer products into the hands of everyone and through the years, we’ve set big goals to help drive change in the unregulated beauty industry.
We just released our 2022 Social Mission Report and I couldn’t be more proud to work for Beautycounter, as we prioritize such important topics, which I’ve highlighted below (but the full report is worth a few minutes to read!):
- Award Winning Safety: In 2021, we achieved our highest-ever score of 97.25 by The Chemical Footprint Project, which is a third party organization that analyzes how businesses use safer chemicals. We’ve been a top-scoring company since the assessment launched. We also have 125 products, including 28 just this year, that are EWG-VERIFIED by The Environmental Working Group, a leading third party organization that independently reviews products against the strictest safety standards.
- Serious about Sustainability: Our sustainability goals are bold and we set a lofty packaging goal that our packaging will be recycled, recyclable, refillable, reusable or compostable by 2025. So far, we are at 70% completion towards this goal and have so many amazing, refillable products available now – from our Clean Deo and Cheeky Clean Cream Blusher to our Cheeky Clean Highlighting Balm and Shower Essentials (yes, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion!
- Responsibly Sourced Ingredients: How ingredients are farmed, harvested or mined matter, as does protecting the people who help bring our products to life. That why, we only used responsibly sourced mica, vanilla and palm oil in our products – this year, we became supply chain-certified through the Round Table on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).
- Climate Action Focused: Minimizing our impact has been a core component of being a mission-drive company since day one. Not only are we active members of the B Corp Beauty Coalition to drive change within the industry, we are also proud to be members of the Planet A Coalition. We have also pledged to being carbon neutral by 2030, purchased 100% green power for our Santa Monica-based HQ and are always re-evaluating our practices – so in 2022, we determined that it’s necessary to adjust our climate goal to be in line with scientific data. It is being externally verified by a third party.
- Mission Driven Advocacy: Advocacy has always been a core component of Beautycounter and it’s been amazing working together to collectively send over 236,000 emails, made over 16,000 calls and held over 2,200 meetings – and you know what? Persistence pays off! This year, we helped pass the Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act (MoCRA) of 2022, which marks the first meaningful update to federal cosmetics laws in OVER 84 YEARS?! Heck yes!!!!!
- Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: Did you know that harmful ingredients in personal care products disproportionately impact BIPOC communities? Our advocacy work helps to address disparate impacts, as we demand better and lobby for state-level legislation (and national, too!) that bans some of the worst offenders, like mercury and formaldehyde, from these products. We also strive to have diversity, equity, and inclusion practices at the center of our daily work and foster an inclusive workplace.
- Giving Back: Giving back has always been central to our mission. Since 2013, we’ve donated over $4.1 million in monetary and product donations to mission-aligned non-profits. In 2022, Beautycounter HQ employees volunteered with TreePeople, an organization on a mission to combat climate change
and social justice, and planted trees in the in the South Los Angeles community of Lynwood.
Every time you vote with your wallet and shop Beautycounter, you are helping to further these goals.
Thank you now and always for your incredible support to doing better as we look and feel our best 😉
