2024 Intentional Goal: More Bulk Bin Shopping

Have you set any New Year’s resolutions?

This year, I honestly didn’t, as I wasn’t feeling it.

Instead, I am vowing to be more intentional in several areas of my life, particularly our health and shopping to best align with that – this obviously prompted my No Shop January challenge, which I hope is going well for everyone 😉

A reoccurring push in shopping more mindfully and intentionally is prioritizing (more) bulk bin shopping to help further reduce our plastic usage. Obviously this isn’t a solution for every food or household item, but small steps add up and I reminded myself of this when I recently needed more arborio rice.

Rather than buying a new container, I opted to shop the bulk bins at MOM’s Organic Market, whose selections are awesome. It was so simple – I brought my own Ball jar (that I had them weigh to know the tare weight to deduct when paying), restocked my arborio rice and voile! I was quickly reset for my favorite Instant Pot garlic rice (or risotto!).

It’s all too easy to throw another plastic container in our shopping carts, but next time before you do, consider bulk shopping instead and bringing your own glass jars. It’s easy, most times better for your wallet and, most importantly, better for our planet, too.
