Laundry stripping – do you do it?
Some of you may be nodding, while others need an explanation 😉.
Laundry stripping is when you remove any build-up like detergent, hard water, etc., that may not wash out from normal wash cycles to leave your clothes/towels softer and cleaner.
Until last month, I had never stripped any of my laundry, but my husband was convinced our kitchen towels needed it, so it was time to find a better way to do it!
Thankfully this Center for Environmental Health article was the perfect tutorial to help us get started and outlined the missing products I needed.
I already had my Meliora detergent that I recently refilled from Sustainable Haus and quickly ordered washing soda and a cleaner whitener from Molly’s Suds, so we could get to work!
It couldn’t have been easier, as I started by filling my tub with hot water, added my towels, whitener, washing soda and detergent, and let them soak until the water turned cool. Every hour, I gave the towels a good stir and after about four hours, they were done. I simply drained the water, rung out the towels and then washed them in the washing machine. Next time, I’ll place the towels outside to dry in the sun before washing them, but unfortunately I did this on a rainy day, so skipped this step.
Afterwards, our towels felt softer, smelt cleaner and, needless to say, we were impressed by how easy this was and what a difference laundry stripping made!
