Readying Your Closet for Fall and Winter

With the temperatures dropping and sales everywhere you look, who else just wants to shop for fall/winter clothes and accessories?!

Glad I’m not alone, ha, but before we do, let’s do a few things together.

First, let’s shop our closet. I know, I know, but hear me out. Can this feel tedious? Yes, I won’t lie, but it’s so necessary and productive! When’s the last time you took everything out of your closet and/or dresser drawers to get a better look at what you have, what you never wear, what’s missing, and what you may want to sell, donate or pass along? Being intentional is the way to go, so let’s suck it up and let’s get it done.

Next, think about what would be on your fall and winter wish lists. Let’s be realistic and intentional, adding things to this list that would fill the gaps in your wardrobe, items you would wear again and again and want to wear this season and beyond, too.

Then, think about where you’re shopping and your budget. For me, I prioritize shopping natural fibers – like wool, cotton, cashmere, linen – as much as I can when buying new. You can definitely find them affordably, but be sure to carefully read the tags, or you can also look to these pieces as investments in for your wardrobe year over year (if so, shop those sales for sure or wait for Black Friday if you can!). Remember, you don’t always have to buy new, too. You can look to secondhand sites like Poshmark, Thred Up and ebay and thrift stores to find used items to round out your closet. Be sure to carefully read descriptions, the condition of the item and review pictures too, so you’re not surprised or disappointed.

Lastly, let’s get those piles of clothes you want to pass along/donate out of our houses! Drop them off in local drop boxes, post for free on Facebook or arrange a charity pick-up – whatever works best for you. For those items you want to sell, consider listing or sending them into sites like Thred Up, Poshmark, ebay or your go-to and let’s make it happen.

Then, we can start shopping and most importantly wearing what makes us look and feel our best. So, let’s can do it and be proud of us for doing the work XO
