No Shop January – Who’s In?

Wow, we are one week into 2026 – how is everyone doing so far?!

While we may thinking about all the ways we want to make it a new year, new you (this former PR girl cringes at all the pitches around this theme), we know how it’s all too easy to take advantage of all the clothing sales and endless barrage of emails to buy new.

But before we do, let’s pause and first start with what clothes and accessories we have. Yes, let’s dedicate time to go through our closets to remember what we have before buying what new item we may think we need.

So, who’s up for a challenge?

Let’s bring back our No Shop January Challenge!

While you can tailor the rules to whatever works best for you, let’s limit those unnecessary, impulse buys this month and intentionally shop for essentials like:

  • Food
  • Health-related items like vitamins, supplements, etc
  • Personal care products
  • Clothes, only if items have been torn, outgrown or not yet bought for the season (i.e. winter clothing, footwear and accessories, as it’s actually supposed to be a snowy winter here)

Yes, definitely prioritize buying any winter clothing/accessory needs plus, any that we’ve outgrown, are too worn or ripped. Ideally, they will be replaced with a high quality staple – not fast fashion and preferably made from natural fibers like cotton, wool, cashmere, etc. – that will be worth the investment for long-term wear and use. Consider buying second-hand from sites like ThredUp, Poshmark or Facebook groups, before voting with our wallet and buying new from better brands.

I realize this can feel like a lot, but I promise it will be worth it in the end! Cheers to starting off 2026 by being more accountable and prioritizing what we actually need to help not only our closets and wallets, but the landfills, too.
