During cold and flu season, and now with the Coronavirus spreading, the importance of properly washing your hands is key to keep germs at bay (and in case you need a refresher on how to wash – wet your hands (then turn off water), lather/scrub as you sing the ABCs and wash with lukewarm water).
As you find yourself washing more frequently, here is a hand washing survival guide to give your hands as much TLC as possible:
- Be sure you’re using a safer hand soap without any questionable ingredients or pesky fragrances. My favorite brand is Better Life (here is a two pack version or the gallon refills I buy)
- Hand washing can quickly take a toll on your skin, so in between washes or as often as you can, don’t forget to apply hand lotion – this hydrating Beautycounter hand cream is perfect in your desk drawer/purse/gym bag and I also love rotating in the Body Butter as well
- Take protecting your hands one step further by wearing these If You Care gloves as you wash dishes – this eco-friendly option is world’s better than those smelly, odd-fitting gloves you may have bought before at the supermarket and you’ll instantly be hooked
- If your hands do start to bleed from all the washing, apply some Calendula cream to help safely heal those cuts and if this must-have isn’t already in your First Aid Kit, you’ll be happy it is now
- Lastly, be sure to lather up your hands with lotion at night (this melting body balm is my favorite nighttime go-to) and cover them with cotton socks or gloves to bed – glamorous? Not really, but it does the trick 🙂
Here’s to keeping germs away while protecting your hands!
