How and Why to Eat Seasonally This Month

Happy February!

Do you shop seasonally to take advantage of in-season produce?

If not, here are a few reasons to start now and maximize what you’re eating!

  • You will save money! Buying fruits and veggies when they are in season will help your wallet, and they should be available in abundance, too, so more to shop from! Keep this list handy the next time you go food shopping and notice that these items may be on sale, too!
  • They taste better! Fruits and vegetables grown and picked in season typically are full of nutrients and flavor. That’s why berries and tomatoes taste best in the summer – same goes for oranges now!
  • It’s better for the environment! Consider buying seasonal and locally grown produce whenever possible. Whether it’s from your local supermarket or farmer’s market, this will reduce your environmental footprint as you save money!
  • And shopping seasonally is better for your health! When you buy produce during their appropriate season, these foods are more nutritionally dense vs when they’re grown out of season, which can throw off they’re natural growing and ripening patterns.

Happy eating and bring on the broccoli, cauliflower and oranges (and more!) 🙂
