After reading several recipes on how to make your own dishwashing detergent and needing to buy a new box of detergent, I decided to try it out myself and let me tell you, DIY is so easy and works great! I can’t believe I waited so long to make it, as it’s made from safer ingredients and affordable, too!
You most likely have (almost) all the necessary ingredients in your house to quickly whip up your own detergent to try. If not, the three ingredients are readily available at your supermarket or online! I know for me, I just needed to buy Washing Soda, which I found at Target, and less than five minutes later, I had my first batch of dishwasher detergent made š

Dishwasher Detergent Ingredients:
- 1 cup of Washing Soda
- 1 cup of Baking Soda
- 1 cup of Citric Acid (I personally use this as we have hard water)
- Optional: 10-15 drops of Essential Oil of your choice – I used lemon!
Instructions:
- Add the Washing Soda, Baking Soda and Citric Acid together to a large bowl and mix well to remove any clumps
- If using, add Essential Oil
- Store in an airtight container and use about 2 Tablespoons per load
